About GROTON, CT
Groton, CT is a town which lies on Fishers Island Sound, between the Thames and Mystic rivers. It was established in 1705 after it separated from New London, CT. Groton is home to the General Dynamics Electric Boat, a major contractor for submarine work to the United States Navy. General Dynamics Electric Boat is also the largest employer in Groton. Groton is also home to the Naval Submarine Base New London, the United States Navy's primary East Coast submarine base. The United States Navy Submarine Force Library and Museum is also located on the Thames river near Groton. Groton is sometimes referred to as the submarine capital of the world, due to its long history with submarine work and because of the fact that Groton has one of the largest submarine bases in the world.
Pfizer, one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies also has a presence in Groton. It is one of the major employers in the area and maintains a research and development facility.
